You’re Invited to Firestone Walker’s Inaugural Invitational

A new festival brings chefs, brewers and beer lovers to a hoppy hoedown

fwibfWe can feel it. Spring is coming. Summer? Mere months away. Time to start thinking about beer festivals. We can’t hit every last open-air party, but there’s at least one not to be missed, the first annual Firestone Walker Invitational. With a manageable crowd size of 2,500, fresh kegs of the best craft beers in the world, live music, and esteemed guest chefs, it’s got an additional factor going for it that sets it above the fray. Many of the brewers will be there in person. “What makes this event most unique is the presence of breweries and beers rarely seen in California along with the actual brewers attending in most cases,” says Firestone’s Jamie Smith. “Our goal has been to create an amazing experience not only for the event-goer, but for the brewers, too,” he adds.

The fairground has a Western feel; meanwhile, the roster represents a who’s-who of today’s top-ranked tap smiths. Where to start? Will it be Indiana’s Three Floyds, Tampa’s Cigar City, Orange County’s The Bruery, the San Diego area’s Lost Abbey, Stone, and Alpine breweries, Santa Rosa’s craft brew pioneers Russian River or famed Dutch “gypsy brewery” Mikkeller? Two local bands will be playing throughout the day before shaggy NorCal rockers The Mother Hips take the main stage at 4:30 pm, while the menu will include farm-to-table delicacies from the likes of Thomas Hill Organics and Villa Creek.
